Masquerade Art Residency

Masquerade grew out of something I kept hearing: artists who want to make nude work but aren't ready to hand over their faces with it. So this edition was built around the mask. We painted them together and wore them into the shoots. One artist shoots on film and walked us through developing our own; another evening we made a film with the whole group masked. Poetry came through a game — guess your word in Pictionary, then write to it. We sketched whatever the room offered, and went out to a proper studio to feel our way around studio lights.
